Does the Buddhist precepts mean bondage!

The law collection in the Sanzang of "The Theory of Classics and Laws" refers to the laws and regulations formulated by the Buddha and the rules of life of the cult. When it comes to Buddhist precepts, many people have doubts. Is the precept a constraint?

  01

  The origin of precepts

The precepts of Buddhism are not that the Buddha makes laws rigidly according to his own likes and dislikes. It's that Buddha, out of compassion, made precepts for things, cared for all beings with compassion, so that all beings were not confused by troubles and confused karma, did not sink into life and death, and were able to get rid of it with interest.

According to the Law of Monks, "The Buddha left the city in Vishe and became a Buddha for five years. On the twelfth day of the fifth half of the winter equinox, he sat in the east with a half shadow after eating, making this precept for the elder Yeshegyalandozi." Because when Yeshegai Lantuozi went home to visit his parents after becoming a monk, his mother made him live with his original wife for immoral purposes in order to carry on the family line, and the Buddha made a precept when he knew about it.

Every commandment is made for a specific reason, or someone has made some mistakes, or some behaviors have caused social incomprehension, which is not good for monks and individuals to practice.

The formulation of a commandment is not formed at one time. With the change of specific circumstances, it is gradually improved through initial formulation, customization, etc., and it is not rigid after formulation. Among the commandments, there are those who hold crimes and do not commit crimes, and there are differences between light and heavy.

  02

  Take precepts as teachers

Before the Buddha's nirvana, many disciples recommended Ananda to ask the Buddha four important questions. The first question is who should the Buddha learn from after his nirvana?

The Buddha made it clear that you should follow the precepts as a teacher. Being able to observe the precepts is like the Buddha living in the world. This is the origin of "taking precepts as a teacher".

Hua Yan Jing says: "precept is the supreme bodhi book, and it should be sufficient to hold the net precept." If you can keep the net ring, everything will be admired by the Tathagata. " Discipline is the foundation of supreme bodhi, and it is also the foundation for Buddhism to live in the world.

  03

  Merit of keeping precepts

Keeping precepts is self-protection and a way for Buddhas and Bodhisattvas to love all beings. Keeping precepts is to stop evil, stop all evil laws and get clean, and at the same time give birth to all good laws. In the three studies of abstinence and wisdom, abstinence is the foundation, and the most important weapon to subdue our inner troubles is abstinence.

When we hold our body and mind strictly by keeping the precepts, and at the same time infect the world with the coolness we get from keeping the precepts, it is actually the manifestation of the power of the Buddha, that is, the kind eyes of the Buddha are watching us, that is, the hands full of weeds of the Buddha are pulling us to swim in the legal sea, and finally sending us to the other side of liberation!

Commandments can cure all kinds of greed and delusion of all beings. A truly understanding Buddhist disciple will understand that those who can abide by the precepts can get rid of the control of greed and enjoy real freedom in body and mind.
