A precious collection spanning more than three thousand years.

The first special exhibition of the Palace Museum in Hong Kong

In this exhibition, 220 sets of ancient China gold wares spanning more than 3,000 years are displayed. Some of the treasures include the magnificent gold ornaments of ancient nobles and the decorations of horses and carriages, and most of them are on public display for the first time.

Among them, the earliest exhibits can be traced back to the 18th century BC, most of which were donated to the museum by the owners of Dream Butterfly Pavilion, Lu Yinyin and Zhu Weiji, and other exhibits were also borrowed from Dream Butterfly Pavilion.

The exhibition is divided into three parts. The first part shows the early gold wares of the northern grassland and the Central Plains from the 18th century BC to the Han Dynasty, and discusses the interaction between the grassland and the Central Plains. The treasures on display include the golden crowns used by Xiongnu nobles.

The second part focuses on the gold wares of Tang Dynasty and Tubo Dynasty from the 7th to 10th century, and shows the role of gold wares in the close communication between the two dynasties. Exhibits include banners decorated with Central Plains ornaments used by Tubo nobles, and inlaid jewels worn by princesses in the Tang Dynasty that draw lessons from Chinese and Western ornaments. These interactions are an important part of the activities of the ancient Silk Road.

The third part of the exhibition presents the achievements in the glorious period of ancient China's gold production, and shows the localization and ethnic blending characteristics of gold products from Liao, Song and Ming Dynasties.

Strive to build a world-class collection

Cultivate the audience's understanding and appreciation of China's art and culture

The Palace Museum in Hong Kong not only displays the precious cultural relics loaned by the Palace Museum, but also strives to establish a distinctive collection, showing the collection culture of Hong Kong and the efforts made by collectors to promote the excellent traditional Chinese culture, and at the same time highlighting the exchanges between the mainland and the world, as well as the dialogue between ancient and modern culture and art.

In 2022, they generously donated 306 sets of ancient China gold and silver wares to the museum, spanning 3,000 years, which laid a solid foundation for the preparation of a world-class collection.

In conjunction with the opening of "Golden Flower", the museum launched a series of educational activities, including academic lectures hosted by the exhibition curator, and invited Lu Yinyin, the owner of Dream Butterfly Pavilion, and Zhu Weiji to share their experiences in collecting these gold wares and their appreciation of related cultural relics.
