Born in Jingxian County, Xuancheng City, Anhui Province, Tang Junyao became attached to fencing in the third grade of primary school and began to practice fencing with coach Zuo Hongqi. He joined the provincial reserve team in 2015 and the provincial team in 2018. He is currently studying in school of economics and management International Economics and Trade of Hefei University.

Wang Guanglei, coach of the fencing team of Hefei University, recalled that the first time I met Tang Junyao was in a provincial competition. Wang Guanglei was deeply impressed by Tang Junyao's momentum and strong play in the competition. "At that time, I felt that although the little girl was still immature in playing, she was particularly brave in playing. We all thought that she could' come up'."

In 2018, Tang Junyao came to the Anhui fencing team. During the training with the provincial team, Tang Junyao began to emerge.

Wang Guanglei believes that the first turning point of Tang Junyao's career was in the World Youth Fencing Championships. "Since then, her whole state has been improved, including the youth competition and the adult competition." At the age of Tang Junyao at that time, it was very difficult to win the top athletes in important events.

Coach Wang revealed that Tang Junyao is very practical in daily training, and almost every training will come to the venue in advance to prepare. "She is willing to give herself to the training hall."

In addition, Wang Guanglei also pays great attention to the attitude of athletes in warm-up, which can determine how far an athlete can go. As a coach, he will observe the players in training. "Many players will stand up when they go to the penultimate board when they are preparing, and Tang Junyao will seriously go to the last board."

After the training, Tang Junyao will stretch and relax himself. Wang Guanglei said frankly, "In fact, many athletes are unwilling to do the later stretching. From this point, we can see that an athlete has requirements for himself." It is Tang Junyao's steadfastness in training that makes Wang Guanglei feel that Tang Junyao can go further on her fencing path.

Tang Junyao began to learn fencing in 2011, won the individual third place and team second place in Anhui Youth Fencing Championship in 2012, won the individual champion and team champion in Anhui Youth Fencing Championship in 2015, won the women's individual epee championship in U16 Group of National Club League (Tangshan Station) in 2017, won the adult women's individual epee championship in the national fencing championship in 2020-2021, and won the national champion on behalf of Anhui team in 2022.
