　　Brief introduction of book content

　　Fan Jinshi has successively won the honorary titles of "National Advanced Worker", "Touching China People" and "Pioneer of Reform", and won the national honorary title of "Outstanding Contributor to Cultural Relics Protection" in 2019.

　　Approved by Mr. Fan Jinshi himself, 106 articles have been selected in this book.

　　These articles mainly include three aspects:

　　First, the research on the value, protection and opening management of Dunhuang grottoes, including the value of Dunhuang culture, the course of research on the protection of Dunhuang grottoes, and the protection, management and opening up of Dunhuang grottoes;

　　Second, archaeological research on Dunhuang Grottoes and related cultural relics, including grotto archaeology and Dunhuang studies, cave staging and grotto archaeological reports, textual research on mural contents, archaeological excavations and unearthed cultural relics;

　　The third is the memorial and preface of the sages.

　　To celebrate the 85th birthday of Mr. Fan Jinshi, honorary president of Dunhuang Research Institute, and the 60th anniversary of his undertaking in the protection and research of Dunhuang cultural relics, Dunhuang Research Institute decided to edit and publish the Collection of Fan Jin's Poems, which made Mr. Fan Jinshi's academic research and cultural relics protection and management ideas widely spread and promoted the further development of chinese heritage's protection and research.

　　In the autumn of 2022, we began to sort out and compile the collected works. Zhao Shengliang, secretary of the Party Committee of Dunhuang Research Institute, was in charge and set up an editorial team. Song Yanpeng, deputy director of Dunhuang Studies Information Center, led some staff of the information center to collect, sort out and edit manuscripts, and Xu Qiang, the office of the hospital, also participated in related work. Most of Mr. Fan Jinshi's articles are published in all kinds of books and periodicals (about 146 articles in total), and some of them are reports or speeches at some meetings and recordings of speeches, which are often not published separately and are of great value. We also included such articles in the anthology through sorting. After collecting, sorting and proofreading, the prototype of the anthology was finally compiled, and 106 articles were selected after being examined and approved by Mr. Fan Jinshi himself. These articles mainly include three aspects: first, the research on the value and protection and opening management of Dunhuang grottoes, including the value of Dunhuang culture, the course of research on the protection of Dunhuang grottoes, and the protection, management and opening of Dunhuang grottoes; Second, archaeological research on Dunhuang Grottoes and related cultural relics, including grotto archaeology and Dunhuang studies, cave staging and grotto archaeological reports, textual research on mural contents, archaeological excavations and unearthed cultural relics; The third is the memorial and preface of the sages. When the book was edited, it was decided to publish it in two volumes. Considering the balance of the two volumes, we compiled the articles in the first and third aspects into the first volume, and the articles in the second aspect (archaeological related content) into the second volume. The publication of each article is indicated at the end of the article. The illustrations in this paper use full-color high-definition plates as far as possible, including photos of Dunhuang grottoes, cave mapping and line drawing, etc.Provided by Dunhuang Research Institute, Institute of Cultural Relics Digitalization, Institute of Archaeology and other departments. Due to the limited level, some texts may appear in the process of editing and proofreading, which cannot truly reflect Mr. Fan Jinshi's research results, and the editorial team is responsible for it.

　　On July 10th, 2023, a symposium on Fan Jinshi's 60-year work on Dunhuang cultural relics was held in Dunhuang, at which the asteroid No.381323 was officially named "Fan Jinshi Star". At the same time, after donating 10 million yuan to Peking University to support Dunhuang studies, Fan Lao donated another 10 million yuan to the Dunhuang Grottoes Protection Research Foundation in China for the development of Dunhuang cultural relics and the training of urgently needed talents.

　　"Choose one thing and end your life", which has been adhered to for 60 years, has closely integrated itself with the research and protection of grottoes in Mogao Grottoes. Every unpretentious talk is full of love for this cause. How deep is the love of bone marrow to make this simple and great old man pay for his life?

　　We want to pay tribute to this "daughter of Dunhuang"! I hope that generations of Dunhuang guardians can inherit and carry forward this enduring Mogao spirit.
