Cheltenham have confirmed the signing of defensive midfielder Curtis Thompson.

According to Gloucestershire Live, the 29-year-old player has agreed to sign a one-year contract after coming off the bench in the friendly match with Newport AFC last Saturday.

Thompson was laid off by Wycombe Rangers at the end of last season after playing at Adams Park for four years.

He injured the medial ligament of his knee in the 5-5 draw with Robbins at home in February 2022, and has now recovered, making six appearances last season.

He began to study at the Youth Academy in leicester city, then joined Naudts County as a scholar, and was loaned to Lincoln City, Ixton and Wycombe, and joined Wycombe permanently in 2018.

Thompson made 33 appearances for the club under the then head coach gareth Ainsworth.

After curtis davies, Rob streeter, Jamie Paddington, Luke Southwood, Liam Smith and Oliver Hammond on loan from Nottingham Forest, he is now the seventh new signing for Cheltenham this summer.

"I am very happy to succeed," Thompson told the club's official website. "I am a midfielder and I like perseverance. I like to try to control the ball as much as possible.

"I want to keep a positive attitude, drive the team and work very hard in every game I participate in."

Russell Milton, Robbins' recruitment director, added: "We are very happy that Curtis has joined our team. He has very good experience and pedigree, and we got a good character recommendation from his former manager.

"He will be a real asset to the team and will definitely benefit other players around him.

"He was frustrated by injury in the past year, but we have done all the necessary tests and he is ready to move on."
