Countdown to 7 days | Open site audience registration and voting for the most popular team of synthetic biology competition

  From August 4th to 6th, the 2nd Synthetic Biology Competition and Innovation Competition will be held in Guangming Life Science Park, Shenzhen! Compared with the first innovation competition, this competition added a large-scale facility competition-bacteria game competition and a large-scale facility competition-protein design competition on the basis of the regular track, with novel and unique competition forms. The first competition was held in Shenzhen University of Technology (to be established) Pearl Campus in 2022, and then the organizing committee of the competition attracted 48 schools and 80 teams to sign up for the second synthetic biology competition and innovation competition through a series of roadshows in colleges and universities. At that time, the participating teams and instructors will gather in Shenzhen to discuss and exchange ideas, witness the innovation trend of basic and applied synthetic biology in China and collide with the creative sparks of synthetic biology.

  Registration is now open to the audience: on the afternoon of August 4, the audience can visit the posters of the participating teams and communicate with the team members, as well as the wonderful reports of artists and designers; On August 5th, all day, the audience can watch the teams coming to the stage to reply and the comments of academicians and experts.

  Brief introduction of major scientific and technological infrastructure for synthetic biology research in Shenzhen

  The major scientific and technological infrastructure for synthetic biology research in Shenzhen (hereinafter referred to as the "big facility") is invested by Shenzhen Municipal Government, with Shenzhen Institute of Advanced Technology of Chinese Academy of Sciences (hereinafter referred to as the "Advanced Institute") as the lead unit, and Shenzhen Second People's Hospital and Shenzhen Huada Institute of Life Sciences as the co-construction units, to build the first large-scale scientific and technological infrastructure for synthetic biology research with independent intellectual property rights in China, which is scheduled for trial operation and acceptance in 2023.

  Based on the basic research of synthetic biology, the large-scale facility introduces the intelligent manufacturing concept in the development of automation industry into the research of synthetic biology. Based on intelligent, automated and high-throughput equipment, it builds a synthetic biology research device for the synthesis, assembly, implantation, activation and testing of multi-dimensional synthetic organisms such as biological components, complex networks and artificial cells. Combined with the in-depth research and development of design software and machine learning, it can complete the "design-build-test" quickly, with low cost and multiple cycles. In the applied research of medical treatment, pharmacy, energy, environment, agriculture, chemical industry and national defense, the research flux, speed and success rate will be greatly improved, the period from scientific research to the transformation and application of scientific and technological achievements will be greatly shortened, the innovation ability of synthetic biology in China will be enhanced, the core scientific problems in the field of synthetic biology will be focused, and major national research plans and projects will be implemented to meet the major scientific and technological needs of national economy and national security.

  After the project is completed, it will develop into a life science research and development platform with international standards and leading role, and will become the first large-scale synthetic biology research infrastructure in China that systematically integrates software control, hardware integration and synthetic biology applications.

  Biomedicine is a complex and challenging field, involving a lot of data processing, pattern recognition, theoretical model construction and experimental verification. The introduction of AI basic model enables us to observe and understand the problems in this field from an unprecedented perspective, accelerate the pace of scientific research, and improve the efficiency and effectiveness of medical services. This kind of cross-field cooperation marks that we are moving towards a new era of deep integration of science and technology and biomedicine, which has a far-reaching impact on promoting scientific research, optimizing medical services and promoting human health.

  Jizhi Club, together with Wu Tailin, an assistant professor at West Lake University, Wang Hanchen, a postdoctoral researcher in the Department of Computer Science at Stanford University, Huang Kexin and Huang Qian, Ph.D. students, and Tu Xinming, a Ph.D. student at Washington University, jointly launched a reading conference with the theme of "Big Model and Biomedicine", to learn and research related literature together, and to explore the application, influence and prospect of basic models in biomedical and other scientific fields. The reading club will be held online from 9: 00 am to 11: 00 am every Sunday from August 13th, 2023, and the duration is expected to be 8 weeks.
