Visiting the gatekeeper of Huazhong University's "room temperature superconductivity research" experiment: the professor team is doing experiments all day.

Poster journalist Wen Luyi and Zhang Haizhen report from Wuhan

Recently, the freshman team in Huazhong released a video saying that "LK-99 crystal which can be magnetically levitated has been successfully verified and synthesized for the first time" and "it is expected to realize real contactless superconducting magnetic levitation". On August 3rd, the poster journalist visited the experimental site of the team.

At a certain temperature, a conductor with zero resistance is called a superconductor, which has three basic characteristics: complete conductivity, complete diamagnetism and flux quantization. The zero-resistance characteristics of superconducting materials can be used to transmit electricity and manufacture large magnets, minimizing losses. Its complete diamagnetism will make the manufactured superconducting trains and superconducting ships run in a friction-free state, greatly improving their speed and quiet performance. Superconductors are closely related to low temperature environment. In order to make superconducting materials more practical, people began to explore high-temperature superconductors.

LK-99 crystal is the world's first room temperature superconducting material discovered by Korean scientists. After the publication of the paper on LK-99 crystal by the Korean team, it caused a lot of controversy, and the multinational research team tried to reproduce the "LK-99 crystal magnetic levitation experiment".

Experimental video released by bilibili UP.

On the afternoon of August 1st, the first video of bilibili UP's "Sekinoyamaguchi Male Technician" said: Wu Hao, a postdoctoral fellow at the School of Materials, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, and Yang Li, a doctoral student, successfully verified and synthesized LK-99 crystal which can be magnetically levitated for the first time under the guidance of Professor Chang Haixin from the School of Materials. The suspension angle of the crystal is larger than that of the samples obtained by Sukbae Lee and others from the Korean Quantum Energy Research Center, and it is expected to realize the real contactless superconducting magnetic levitation.

Upmaster also pointed out that at present, only Messner effect (that is, complete diamagnetism) has been verified, and there is only a sample with a size of several tens of microns. If the resistance is further measured, the next batch of samples will have to come out.

On August 3rd, the Propaganda Department of Central China University Party Committee responded that the video was indeed released by the doctoral students of Professor Chang Haixin. The reproduction of its video description reproduces the experiment of the Korean team, and the school cannot verify it.

On August 3rd, the poster journalist contacted Professor Chang Haixin. "The school has requirements and does not accept media interviews." Chang Haixin said.

On the morning of August 3rd, the poster journalist came to Huazhong University of Science and Technology National Experimental Teaching Demonstration Center for Materials Science and Engineering. There was only one security guard on duty at the entrance of the center. He introduced that the center would close at 10 o'clock every night, and the teachers and students doing experiments needed to leave before that. Professor Chang Haixin usually came to the laboratory every day. On the evening of August 1, Professor Chang Haixin and the teaching assistant came out of the laboratory and told the doorman that there was an experiment that needed to be done quickly. Please don't pull the gate at the door after ten o'clock in the evening. "I also heard that they have made this experiment. Several people want to see Professor Chang these days. Now the team of professors is doing experiments 24 hours a day. " The doorman said.

In addition to the Huazhong University team, a number of schools and national research teams have recently announced their research results in the field of "room temperature superconducting materials".

On August 1st, a researcher's article in Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory in the United States was considered to have found a theoretical basis for the superconductivity of LK-99, a material of Korean research team. American Taj Quantum Company claims to have discovered another room temperature superconductor material.

On August 3rd, Professor Sun Yue of Southeast University (bilibili UP "Scientific Investigation Bureau") released a video to show the reproduction experiment of room temperature superconductivity. In his latest work, he said that his team has not confirmed and discovered room temperature superconductivity. However, under the condition of 110K, the team successfully observed 0 resistance in the experimental samples, which may be an important evidence for the existence of superconductivity in the samples, but it did not observe its complete diamagnetism.
