  On the morning of August 2nd, as the cutter head of the shield machine slowly rotates, Baiyun Pioneer, the largest diameter shield machine of Guangzhou Metro Group, was successfully launched from the starting shaft of Guangzhou-Zhuhai (Australia) high-speed rail shield in the reserved rail transit project of T3 transportation hub of Baiyun Airport (hereinafter referred to as T3 rail transit hub).

  The Guangzhou-Zhuhai (Macao) high-speed railway tunnel of T3 rail transit hub is a single-hole double-line shield tunnel with a section line length of 1.476 kilometers. The "Baiyun Pioneer" large-diameter shield machine originated this time consists of cutter head, main engine, equipment bridge and supporting trolley. The whole machine is 145 meters long, with a diameter of 14.31 meters, a total weight of about 4,500 tons, a total installed power of about 9,000 kilowatts and a total thrust of 20,000 tons.

  After the departure, the shield machine will directly pass through the airport flight area and pass through the airport boundary, navigation radar signal influence area, soil surface area, taxiway and other areas in turn from east to west. The geological karst in the excavation area is well developed, including sand layer, silty clay, gravelly silty clay, moderately weathered limestone and other strata, which has the characteristics of complex construction environment, high excavation risk and many controlling factors.

  In view of the complex and changeable geological conditions, the shield machine is equipped with the functions of "screw machine+straight pipe discharge system" and synchronous double liquid grouting, which lays a solid foundation for smooth shield tunneling.

  According to reports, the T3 rail transit hub is managed by Guangzhou Metro Group, and it is planned, designed, constructed and operated synchronously with the third phase expansion project of Baiyun Airport. The project includes T3 station and its two-side sections of Guanghe high-speed railway, Guangzhou-Zhuhai (Macao) high-speed railway and Fangcheng International Railway, which is an important part of the third phase construction of Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport and the core project of the transportation hub under the "Yangcheng Corolla" of T3 Terminal.

  After the completion of the project, Baiyun Airport will be accessible to the central city of Guangzhou in 30 minutes, to the cities in the Pearl River Delta in 60 minutes and to the major cities in the Pan-Pearl River Delta in 3 hours, which is of great significance for accelerating the construction of world-class airports in Greater Bay Area and boosting the high-quality development of world-class urban agglomerations in Greater Bay Area.
